Dprime is an index for the discriminability of a signal from noise.
Calculating Dprime For signals with quantitative values and assummed that values are normally distributed, dprime is defined as mean(signal) mean(noise) divided by the square root of the half the sum of variance(noise) plus variance(signal)
Calculating Dprime based on hit rate The dprime index can aslo be derived from hit and falsealarm rates by calculating the inverse of the cumulative distribution function of the Gaussian distribution.

It is common practice to use linear models to estimate effects of independent variables on dependent measures. In cases with several parameters a multiple linear regression can be applied. By orthogonalization of the different parameters or regressors, each regressor will pick up only the variance that is uniquely explained by that specific regressor. The beta estimate (slope of the regression line) provide explained and residual sum of squares that can then be used for statistical testing.
